Presidents Message May 2016

Having a son who is an Electronics Technician and car audio enthusiast has its advantages. I figured upgrading the factory speakers in our Cayman S would be a fun project to work on together. We had already replaced the factory head unit and amplifier a few years ago so we were long overdue to tackle the speakers. Removing the door panels and various interior parts was a joint effort with tremendous guidance from the articles section at the PCA Cayman Registry. While Aaron was using his expertise to assemble crossovers, I went to work in the shop fabricating speaker adapter mounts from various dimensions of plywood. Running new speaker wire through the dash required having our faces deeply planted in the foot wells. This exercise in gymnastics seems to become more challenging with each car. It took much longer than expected to get the speakers and crossovers installed and get the sound quality equalized , but we finally got everything put back in place. Overall, it turned out to be a fun project to work on together.
Saturday, May 7th, is the annual Member Appreciation Lunch and Tech Session in Columbia. This is always a very popular event so make plans to attend. On May 15, you can enjoy your Porsche and take in our state’s natural beauty by joining the road tour through Mark Twain National Forest. And it’s not too late to sign up for the Porsche St. Louis HPDE driver’s education event at Gateway Motorsports Park on May 21-23. At the end of the month is the Automotive Art Show and pot luck at the Danuser’s famous garage in Columbia. Please see all the details in this month’s Plauderei.
Kim and I look forward to seeing you at one of our events.
