President’s Message – April 2018

Most of you are familiar with the region’s public events and activities, but not necessarily the hard work that goes on in the background to bring these to you. Believe it or not, these events don’t just happen. It all starts with volunteers. What is a volunteer? All the region board members, all the committee members and chairs, all the officers, area representatives and event organizers are volunteers.

Some, like Elaine Rose, Mark Hickerson, Nancy Goodman, Andie Smolaovich, J Thrash, Robby Robinson, Dave & Barb Danuser, Ted Zimmermann, Patty Paster, Marek Parafiniuk and Karl Robinson have recently volunteered to become board members, chairs or area representatives. Others, including Pam Wingbermuehle, Gail Warren, Mary Ecsedy, Josh Landau, Joel Aurand, Chad Funkhouser, Catherine Ham, Kelis Thacker, Bob Tamsky, Allen Maddy, Wade Bowlin and I have been around a little longer. Long-time volunteers include Jim Fiss, Dan Sokol, Earlwayne Stumpf, Gary Bachman, Geoff Baltz, Dan Hinkebein, Bob Paster, Steve Sullivan and Jim Singler. These are the people, who as volunteers, provide direction for the region, keep it financially sound, organize the events you enjoy and look forward to secure the region’s future. If I missed your name here, I apologize. Whether named here or not, you deserve recognition.

A volunteer is a club member just like you…Even you can be a volunteer. Do you have an idea of a social event you think others would enjoy? How about a favorite road trip or destination you would like to share? Your favorite car show or watch party for a great race? How about a charity event? Do you own a business or work for a business that caters to Porsche fans, car enthusiasts, or the general public? Raise your hand; contact me or any other board member to share. We’ll be happy to get you started as a volunteer.

Don’t want to jump in with both feet? How about helping with a road tour, track event or one of our upcoming big social events? Event organizers can always use an extra hand, and you can learn what it takes to host your own event. Every road tour requires at least a lead car, a sweep car (with two people in each) and an observer. Track events require help with registration, loaner helmets, concurrent events and charity laps. The upcoming All Porsche Car Show, the Holiday Party, and next year’s 60th Region Anniversary celebration will all require additional help. If you, your spouse, family member or associate member wish to get involved, contact the organizer of the particular event in which you are interested or contact any board member.

The region benefits by providing more to our members when you volunteer. Other members benefit with a larger variety of region events when you volunteer. Other volunteers benefit with a lightened burden when you volunteer. And You benefit with a higher level of satisfaction, new adventures and new friends when you volunteer. Join us, become a volunteer.
