President’s Message – September 2018

It broke again!

It’s a good thing I enjoy a little light mechanical work because, with a 33 year old Porsche, things break on a regular basis. Before Parade, I had to have the A/C recharged so Gail and I could enjoy the “cool comfort” of a mid-eighties 911 air conditioner system (if you didn’t know, these systems were never very good at cooling.) Then during Parade, the starter decided to not work when the car was hot. No big deal, just get it rolling and pop the clutch. Of course, this malady hasn’t reoccurred since we got home.

Then Saturday evening, as I was washing the car in preparation for our Winery Brunch Tour, I noticed a strong gasoline small at the rear of the car. A little investigation showed that an o-ring had failed and gas was dripping on the block from the middle injector on the passenger side. Not having time to repair the leak that night, and not willing to risk a fire, we had to lead our tour on Sunday in Gail’s Audi. So, because of a part that will cost less than a dollar, the 911 sat at home instead of taking us on another great drive.

I’ll purchase the needed parts to replace all the injector o-rings this week and will soon spend a couple enjoyable hours in the garage repairing my favorite car. Once done, all will be right with the world…Until it breaks again!
