President’s Message – October 2018

Looking back over the last few months, I believe we, as a region, could say we have had a very successful summer.

Our April HPDE was sold out. The Intro to High Performance Driving and its associated track day and Advanced Driver Day were very well attended, the Summer HPDE did well and the Fall HPDE is already sold out. Our Region was very well represented at the Parade at the Lake of the Ozarks, with more members in attendance than any other region – and we had a great time!  Tischzeit Thursdays are always a sellout, the All Porsche Car Show and cocktail party were a great success, and when the weather cooperates, our tours are well attended. We have recruited about 80 new members this year and are now nearing 1,000 region members.

Now that Fall has arrived, I can see no change in our momentum. We’ve got some great, and important, upcoming events, too. Tischzeit Thursday continues; the first Thursday of every month (except December) we get together at a local restaurant to eat and drink as a group. Watch the Plauderei and our Facebook group for location and RSVP instructions. Some of our best tours, including the Bowling Green Tour and the Fall Color Tour, are also coming soon.

Then comes Street Survival. On November 3rd, St. Louis Region will host our first Tire Rack Street Survival teen driving program. Started by the BMW CCA Foundation 16 years ago, “the school’s aim is to reduce deadly car crashes involving teenagers by providing them a controlled setting where they can gain invaluable experience in car control, all with a knowledgeable coach always at their side…”, but we need more coaches. If you are interested, and have HPDE, racing or other high performance driving experience, please volunteer to be a coach. There is nothing you can do in a car in a single day that will be more fulfilling. Contact Dan Hinkebein to volunteer.

Another great volunteer opportunity is also upcoming. This is the time of the year when we ask for members who’d like to get more involved in the region to volunteer as board members and committee chairs. If you have an interest, contact Jim Fiss to register that interest.

Last, but not least, our Holiday Party will take place on December 1st at Porsche St. Louis. Our Social Chairs are working hard to make the party as
great as last year’s celebration. My advice to you, don’t miss it! The next few months are shaping up to be as much fun as the summer. But just wait, 2019 will be St. Louis Region’s 60th year, and it should be a memorable one!
