President’s Message – February 2021

Greetings St. Louis Region Members!

Tischzeit / Thirsty Thursdays (TT) are back! Shortly after the January Plauderei was published, Steve and Gail Warren were dining at Anthonino’s Taverna. While they were there, they chatted with the manager. They asked if the restaurant would be able to host a PCA group dinner that would meet the current Covid regulations for safety. Since they could, Steve made arrangements, and so we had our first TT of 2021 Hopefully you received the email about that event. If not, please make sure your records are current with PCA national. We use the database of emails to communicate to our members in between Plauderei publications.

On a roll, Steve went ahead and organized the February TT, which will be at the new Schlafly Bankside Brewpub in St. Charles (in the location where Trailhead Brewery used to be). More details can be found in this newsletter. Also, please welcome our new Social Chair, Tim Singler! He will be organizing the TTs and Holiday Party later this year. If the name sounds familiar, yes, he’s Jim’s son.

In other exciting news, registration for Parade 2021 in French Lick, Indiana opens February 10, so mark your calendars. With the location within a short driving distance, this is the year for St. Louis Region members to go, for sure! And the Porsche St. Louis Spring HPDE registration opens February 21 for the extended WWT Track. We’re also trying something new this month – an outdoor star-gazing social! More info on these events can be found within this newsletter.

In Porsche news, the Taycan is now available to order in the base trim. It now comes in a rear-drive format with a lighter weight and price. And the Boxster 25 is here to commemorate its launch 25 years ago. Has it been 25 years already? Boy, that makes me feel old. I remember checking it out at the St. Louis Auto Show when it was new.

Speaking of the St. Louis Auto Show, you may have noticed that it didn’t happen last month. However the show organizers have rescheduled it for April 8 – 11 (assuming there won’t be covid restrictions keeping them from having the show), so that’s some-thing to look forward to this Spring!

Happy Motoring!

President’s Message – January 2021

Greetings & Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday season, and are ready to start a brand new year! In 2021, I’m looking forward to Parade, which will be in French Lick, Indiana, and hopefully getting to an HPDE or two. I’m also looking forward to going on club drives and to tech sessions on the calendar, since those are some of my favorite events. And I’m hopeful that we can resume Thirsty Thursdays sometimethis year. Fingers crossed!

I want to thank all our club members for their patience and understanding over the past year while our event organizers figured out how to host events that complied with the ever-changing COVID regulations, or were sometimes forced to cancel events. We will apply what we’ve learned in the past to help make this year’s events successful.

With each new year comes a few changes in the Club leadership. I’d like to say “Welcome” to the new leaders, “Welcome back” to those continuing from last year, and “Auf Wiedersehen” to the departing ones. Thank you for all of your time and efforts insteering the club and organizing the fun activities for our club members.

Changes to leadership are as follows:

Retiring Board Members and Chairs:
Board Members: Joel Aurand, Charles Faussete, Chad Funkhouser, and Elaine Rose
Chairs: Jeff Ponte (Social), Charles Faussete (PR and Registrar)

New Board Members and Chairs:
Board Members: Morgan Howard, Randall Markarian, and Jim Smith
Chairs: Linda Dunn (PR), Kelis Thacker (Registrar)

We are seeking a new Social Chair and members for the Social Committee to coordinate the monthly Thirsty Thursdays and the year-end Holiday Party. Please let me know if you might be interested in serving in these roles or have any questions about them.

Although Thirsty Thursdays are still on hold for now, we have other fun events planned for this year! Check out the Tentative Calendar for the schedule that was devel-oped at the Changing of the Guard virtual meeting in December. We have three HPDEs, many drives, and tech sessions planned, amongst other events. However, please note that similar to last year and due to the ever-changing restrictions regarding social gatherings, all events are tentative and may be postponed or cancelled. So, be sure to watch for updates in the newsletter and on social media, or e-mail me at nancy.stl.pca@gmail.com if you are wondering about the status of any event. Also, be sure to register for events on the motorsportreg (MSR) website, so that we can keep you updated on any changes via each MSR event’s e-mail distribution list.

But don’t wait for official events to get out and enjoy your Porsches! Get out and drive whenever we get those nice, sunny days in January. We have lots of great roads in the area. Check them out!

Happy Motoring!

Nancy
