President’s Message – May 2021

Greetings St. Louis Region Members!

Missouri weather is ever changing, from day to day, or even within a day. I’m writing this in late April, and yesterday we experienced our last snowfall for this past Winter (hopefully). I had thought it was safe to switch to summer tires a month ago, but apparently, I was wrong. Hopefully, those of you who were as optimistic as me were able to get through the snow. Or maybe you were able to just stay off the roads for half a day until the snow all melted, and Winter became Spring again. To stay, I think.

There’s a lot going on this month in our Region. Our Club Sponsor, Porsche St. Louis, is kicking off May with their Cars & Coffee event on May 1. Bring your Porsches, a check out their cars in the showroom. It’ll be a great time to catch up with your Porsche friends, too.

Next up is our monthly Thirsty Thursday dinner. It will be held at Llywelyn’s in St. Charles on May 6th. Then on May 8, join the Columbia Porsche Group (CPG) in a drive. It will begin in Columbia and end in St. James at the Public House Brewing Company.

If the weather cooperates, we will have an in-person, Regional Board meeting at Shaw Park on May 12. After meeting via Zoom for most of the last year, meeting face-to-face will be a nice change of pace.

Then, on May 16, we have an encore presentation of our popular Mark Twain Run. If you like driving on twisty roads, this drive is for you. It’s one of my personal favorites.

To close out the month, CPG will have their annual Memorial Day get-together in Columbia. More info on all of these events can be found within this newsletter.

And last but not least, I would like to thank all the club volunteers and all our club sponsors, who make all of these fun events possible! Volunteer organizers’ names are listed with the information with each event. Be sure to thank them for all their hard work! And be sure to support our sponsors. Their contact information can be found on our stlpca.org website under the “Sponsors” tab. Or find out about their products andservices by checking out the information contained within this newsletter. Perhaps they can help you get your Porsche ready to enjoy the Spring season that is here to stay!

Happy Motoring!

President’s Message – April 2021

Greetings St. Louis Region Members!

Spring is here! I’m always glad when I can swap to summer shoes, for both me and my car! Plus, Spring means that lots of fun car events are on the horizon. What’s not to like? Except maybe changing clocks and Spring allergies. Ah-choo!

There’s a lot going on this month in the Region. First up is our monthly Thirsty Thursday dinner event, which will be held at the Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis on April 1. Although their specialty is their beer; if you like sweets, try the sticky toffee pudding for dessert.

The St. Louis Auto Show is back this year, after a hiatus in 2020. It is scheduled at America’s Center and Dome for April 8-11. As in years past, our Region will have a display. We will show off a wide variety of club members’ different Porsches from all generations: air-cooled, water-cooled, 2-doors, 4-doors, hardtops, convertibles, and targas. If you would like to be a part of the show, we’d love to have you and your car there!

In Porsche news, the Taycan is now available to order in the base trim. It now comes in a rear-drive format with a lighter weight and price. And the Boxster 25 is here to commemorate its launch 25 years ago. Has it been 25 years already? Boy, that makes me feel old. I remember checking it out at the St. Louis Auto Show when it was new.

Also on April 11, the Columbia group will be hosting a Spring Talk & Tech session, highlighting cleaning and detailing. Check it out and learn how to keep your car looking great!

The club’s first HPDE for 2021 is also coming up this month, from April 16-18. Another first is that it will be on the extended 2 mile road course at WWT Raceway. The event is already sold out. If you’ve already registered but haven’t had your car tech-inspected, it’s time to get that done! Porsche St. Louis, Reid Vann, or ET Tuning can help you with that!

More info on all of these events can be found within this newsletter.

In PCA National news, Phase II of Porsche Parade 2021 registration opens April 7 at 11am Central Time. By the time this newsletter is published, banquet and event information should be on the porscheparade.org website, so check it out to help you plan your week in French Lick. I’m personally most excited about the Concours, Autocross, and driving tours, but there are many other events as well. And of course, taking a week off of work is always a bonus.

In new car news, it appears that wagons are starting to make a comeback, offering an alternative to the SUV. First came the Panamera Sport Turismo. Now, a Cross Turismo has been added to the Taycan lineup. It has a bit more practicality, cargo space, headroom, and ground clearance (20-30mm higher). It’ll be available in 4 trim levels, all of which are all-wheel-drive: 4, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S. They should arrive on our shores this summer, so I’ll be stopping by Porsche St. Louis to have a look!

Happy Motoring!
